Bixby Knolls is a neighborhood next to Lakewood that encompasses the area between the 405 Freeway and Del Amo to the north and south, and is bounded by the Los Angeles River. The main roads here are Atlantic Avenue and Long Beach Boulevard. The Virginia Country Club area is often considered part of Bixby Knolls.
This area is rich in history, including the Los Cerritos Ranch House and housing the Long Beach Historical Society on Atlantic. Large and small businesses can be found here, with small shops and restaurants on Atlantic Avenue and several shopping centers and grocery stores throughout. Pricier homes usually climb into the $850,000 range, although it is not unheard of for sellers to ask upwards of $1,000,000 for a house.
